Francis "John" Ainger, age 70, passed away in his home on October 9, 2018. John was born August 2, 1948, the son of the late Francis and Donna (Mason) Ainger. He grew up in Belmond, Iowa before enlisting in United States Army, serving 20 years as an Electronic Warfare and Signal Intelligence Chief. During his military service, John travelled to Taiwan, Virginia, Hawaii, Okinawa, Germany and Devens, MA, where he retired as a Master Sergeant. John was recognized for his service with the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea).

After he retired from the Army, he worked as an Assistant Manager at Citizens Bank in Groton and Maynard, retiring in 2010. In his spare time, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, travelling and taking beautiful pictures of scenery, sunrises and sunsets. John also enjoyed taxidermy, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marcia (Kapulka) Ainger and his two sons John F. and Shawn D. Ainger, all of Pepperell. Three grandchildren, Sarah Ainger of Maryland; Addyson Ainger of Hollis, NH and Jackson Ainger of Pepperell, and great-grandchild Kalel Allegra. Also survived by sister Kathy Goeman and brother Jeff Ainger, both of Iowa. John was the brother of the late Les Ainger.

A Celebration of John's life will be celebrated at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3291, 55 Leighton St. Pepperell, MA on Thursday October 18, 2018 from 5-9 PM. Military Honors will be at 6 PM at the V.F.W. Arrangements by the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St. Pepperell, MA.
