Stephen Joel Opheim, 67, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Thor, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge surrounded by his loving family.

Steve was born May 29, 1951 in Fort Dodge, the son of Bert Joseph and Grace Winifred (Tokheim) Opheim. He was raised on a farm near Thor and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1970, then attended Waldorf College. Following graduation he was employed by United States Gypsum Company. He was united in marriage to Linda D. Page on September 14, 1974 in Humboldt. They lived in rural Vincent for a time before moving to Fort Dodge. Steve worked for USG for 37 years and during that time he worked in the maintenance department, plant office and later the main office. After taking early retirement, he loved watching the Senate and the House in action or inaction, live on TV. He enjoyed working the land and helping with spring planting and the fall harvest. He was a member of the Cyclone Corvettes and the Ullensvang Lutheran Church, enjoyed traveling, road trips and even musical theatre.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of Fort Dodge, his brothers-in-law, Dick (Michelle) Page and Wayne (Betsy Hines) Page, his nieces and nephews, Jill (Tom) Pliner, Jan (Glen) Westling, Aaron (Jen) Tubbs, Diane (Bill) Nickell, David (Cindi) Baldwin, Mark (Carla) Baldwin, Kathy (Gary) Hamrick, Christa (Tim) Eggimann, Jennifer Page, Bethany (Andrew) Roy, Mercedes (Nevin) Herrick, Dallas Pineda, Brad Page, Justin Page and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and her husband, Jane and Norman Tubbs, his in-laws, Carol Baldwin, Jim Page, Marcia & Larry Baldwin and one great-nephew.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 30th with a time of sharing at 1:00 p.m. at the Friendship Haven Celebration Center in Fort Dodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friendship Haven Good Samaritan Fund.
