Cora Berthilda (Buroos) Spangler, the daughter of Carl and Berthilda (Anderson) Burras, was born on December 1, 1922, near Clarion, Iowa. She was raised in the home of her grandparents, Stenard and Martha (Helland) Anderson. She attended Eagle Grove schools, graduating with the “Class of 1941”. She was employed at Security Savings Bank for several years prior to her marriage.
On May 25, 1947, Cora was united in marriage with Kermit Spangler, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. They farmed in the Duncombe, Thor and Eagle Grove areas, retiring to Eagle Grove in 1974. She was employed at Promico, Inc. for several years, a former Sunday school teacher at Badger Lutheran Church, an assistant 4-H leader, served on several committees of her local church, member of the Lois Circle and the Small Bible Group.
Cora passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, at the age of 95 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kermit in 2007; daughter, Martha in 2009; brothers: Irving, Stanley, Carroll and Raymond Burras; sisters: Arlene Burres and Verna Headrick; brothers-in-law: Bud Headrick, Dale Neese and Everett Burres and sisters-in-law: Laura Burras, Margie Burras and Edith Burras. Survivors include her son, Arnold Spangler and wife Penny of New York City, NY; 4 grandchildren: Christopher and Allison Spangler of New York City, NY, Aaron Flohrs and wife Jessica of Evans, CO and Andria Flohrs-Ricard and husband Ben of Yakima, WA; great-grandchildren, Maya and Heath Ricard and Wyatt and Cody Flohrs; brother, Roger Burras and wife Dorothy of Clarion; sister, Opal Neese of Creston; sister-in-law, Stella Burras of Marshalltown and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Memorials may be directed to Evangelical Lutheran Church “Radio Fund”.
