Albert Josef Andersen, 83, of Audubon County died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Services were Monday, March 8, at Bethany Lutheran Church, northeast of Kimballtown, Iowa. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery. The casket bearers were Gary Killen, Dale Killen, Bruce Vorm, Ken Vorm, Tim Vorm, David Vorm, Steve Vorm, Don Knudsen and Curt Andersen.
Albert Joseph Andersen was born March 2, 1916, to Anders H. and Kristine (Andersen) Andersen on a farm in Hamlin Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa, and attended a rural school, Hamlin 4 in Hamlin Township. His father died when he was 10 1/2. He ran the family farm for several years and then rented a farm for a short time in Hamlin Township.
On Feb. 25, 1939, he married Lydia Vorm at the church parsonage in Clarion, Iowa. The couple lived in Hamline and Sharon Townships until they purchased a farm southeast of Elk Horn, where they farmed until retirement. He was a life-long member of the Bethany Lutheran Church where he served on the church board and held the office of president. The couple were Luther League sponsors and he was a 4-H leader for many years. Fond of dancing, the couple, along with friends, would dance for residents of the Friendship Home, Extra Care Center and several nursing homes.
He is survived by his wife; his children and their spouses, Ronald and Charlotte Andersen of Washington, Iowa, and Carol and Keith Hartvigsen of Blair; his four grandchildren, Kristin and her husband, Russ Blessman, of Ottumwa, Iowa, Kent Andersen of Greeley, Colo., Trey Hartvigsen of Blair and Nicole Hartvigsen of Omaha; his two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Devon Blessman, both of Ottumwa; his brother Franklin and his wife, Margaret Andersen, of Exira, Iowa; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Emmert Andersen of Exira Iowa, Vera Vorm of Des Moines, Iowa, Leslie and Lorene Vorm of Atlantic, Iowa, and Delbert and Leanna Killen of Brayton, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Egidia Andersen; infant sister, Karen Andersen; and his brother-in-law, Leonard Vorm. Memorials are suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church. Kessler Funeral Homes in Audubon, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
