Memorial services for Mrs. Stella Burr, 83, of Sheridan, WY formerly of Garner, who died Friday, July 26, 1991 at Sheridan, WY will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Aug 2, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner with Rev. Chris Thurow of Zion United Church of Christ as officiant. Mrs. Dean Cataldo will be organist. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.
Mrs. Stella Caroline Burr, the daughter of John and Naska Jurgens (Wille) Bock, was born June 18, 1908 on a farm east of Klemme. She attended school at Klemme until her senior year, when she went to Garner, where she graduated in 1926. She received her Normal Teaching Certificate and taught in the rural schools east of Klemme. She then attended the Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines. After graduating she worked for a real estate and insurance company in Des Moines for five years.
June 18, 1934 she was married to Lyle Burr on her parents' farm east of Klemme, Stella taught in the rural schools near Ogden and also in the Ogden Public Schools for several years. She went to Drake University in Des Moines where she received her B.A. Degree in 1959. In the early 1960's, they moved to Arizona where she taught in the elementary school of Phoenix, until she retired. After her husband's death in 1982, she continued to live in Arizona until the mid 1980's when she moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. The past year, due to ill health, she had moved to Sheridan, WY to be near her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Blyth and her husband, Gary of Sheridan, WY; her son, Robert Burr and his wife, Judy of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Edwin F. Bock and his wife, Lenabelle of Clear Lake and Mitchell Bock and his wife Ida Mae of Klemme. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Burr, and her parents.
