Lois A. Finlayson, 71, Mason City passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Nora Springs Care Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
A funeral service for Lois will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City with Pastor Shane Philpott officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. A visitation with a public viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Lois Finlayson Memorial Fund in care of her family.
Lois A. Finlayson was born June 8, 1942 to Hugh and Alice (Johnson) Hummel in Klemme, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Klemme High School in 1960. On September 15, 1963 she was united in marriage to Jon Finlayson in Klemme. To this union, three children were born: Michelle, Jill, and Kris. They moved to Mason City and made it their home for the next 49 1/2 years until Jon passed away on August 11, 2013. Lois was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She worked at Wellborn Industries for many years, but worked at Winnebago Industries in Hampton Iowa for over 20 years and retired due to health problems. After she retired, she and Jon enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO and saw relatives in Florida and Alabama. She will be missed by the many lives she touched.
When she was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2011, the doctors told her she would only live six months; but, she beat the odds by fighting it for over two years. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church for many years.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Michelle "Shelley" Marti (Lance Smith) of Mason City and Kris (Mike) Brass of Rudd; three grandchildren, Matt Seifert of Algona, Kaci and Nicole Shafer of Rudd; great-grandson, Xavier Shafer of Rudd; and her brothers, Leland (Beulah) Hummel of Garner, IA, Ron (Bev) Hummel of Ankeny, IA and Gary (Ann) Hummel of Indianapolis, IN along with many nieces, nephews, and many friends she made at Winnebago. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jon; daughter, Jill (Finlayson) MacEachren; and her son-in-law, James Marti.
