Joel Charles Sadler was born January 14, 1935 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, son to the late Elsie and Edward Sadler. In addition to his parents, Joel was also preceded in passing by sisters Darlene Wade and Mary Lou Killean, brother Major General Robert Sadler (U.S.A.F) and sons Mark and Douglas. Joel is survived by his wife Bonnie of 63 years; son Scott Sadler (Anne Sadler); daughter Denise Sadler (Teresa Small); 3 grandchildren Kristin, Emily and Laura Sadler; brothers Richard Sadler (Mary Sadler) and David Sadler (Karen Sadler) and numerous nieces and nephew across the country.

Joel was raised in Clinton, Iowa, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1953 where he was student body president, participated in several sports including the Iowa State Basketball Championship team, acclaimed for being the smallest school to ever win this honor. He graduated from St. Ambrose University with a degree in chemistry. Upon graduation, he and his wife Bonnie moved to Akron, Ohio starting his manufacturing career as a chemist with B.F. Goodrich, moving on to General/Continental Tire where he moved up through the ranks retiring as Vice President of Manufacturing in 1994 in Charlotte North Carolina. He was an active board member of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, United Way and Junior Achievement. At retirement, Joel joined the Buckeye Fire Extinguisher family in Kings Mountain NC assisting with expansion until the week before passing.

Joel was an avid Panther fan, being a PSL Holder since their inception and a lifetime Notre Dame fan. Although he was a lousy golfer, he was proud to have played a round of golf with Arnold Palmer, enjoyed a night with Bob Hope, and played black jack with Dean Martin.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 6-8pm at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr. Matthews, North Carolina. A private Mass and inurnment will be held for the family at St. Matthew Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lifespan or St. Jude's.
