Clarence A. Waterman, the only son of John and Mary Waterman was born in Benton County, July 4, 1897. At the age of two the family moved to Klemme, Iowa where he grew to adulthood. He was educated in the Klemme Schools and graduated from Garner High School. Following that he took a business course at Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. After completion of the course he was employed by the First National Bank of Klemme, which he served in the capacity of cashier and First Vice-President over a period of almost 40 years. In 1918 he was married to Bessie Keraus, who preceded him in death 9 years ago. To them were born two daughters, Ardice and Marian. Ardice died in infancy and Marian, now Mrs. Lyle Wilcox survives and lives in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Other survivors are his sister, Mabel of Winnetka, Illinois and two grandchildren, Mary Kathryn and Lyle Thomas Wilcox.
Clarence Waterman served his community generously. He was a member of the First Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served in various capacities. At one time he was also a member of the school board, played in the local band and in later years the "Old Timers Band" of Garner. He was a member of the Lions, Masonic Order and Order of Eastern Star and Treasurer of Woodsman Lodge.
