The family lived for a time in Fort Dodge before moving to Eagle Grove. In November of 2001, the family moved to Humboldt where David began school the following year. He grew up in Humboldt where he attended Mease, Taft, Humboldt Middle School, and Humboldt High School.
David was a smart kid who liked doing things his way. He had a knack for computers and enjoyed figuring out how things worked even if he had to take it apart. He had a technical mind and was fascinated by electronics and enjoyed programing and writing codes. He liked snakes, guns and knives and was scared to death of spiders.
