Bertha Mae Bjornson, 87, of Urbandale passed away on July 2, 2018, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Bertha was a resident at Bickford Senior Living and Memory Care in Urbandale.

Bertha Mae Kiley, the oldest daughter of Tom and Marie (Vroman) Kiley, was born on October 16, 1930 on a farm near Kanawha, Iowa. She graduated from Renwick High School and was united in marriage to Fred Bjornson of Goldfield on January 29, 1949. They were married for 56 years.

Bertha was a retired employee of CenturyLink (Northwestern Bell) and enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing in Minnesota as well as many other hobbies.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, all three of her siblings and her husband, Fred. Those honoring Bertha’s memory include her three children, Fred Thomas (Mary) Bjornson of Perry, Laura Snyder of Altoona and Rahn (Maurine) Bjornson of Urbandale; eleven grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2018, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2900 49th Street in Des Moines. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church in Bertha’s memory or to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
