Amanda Elisabeth Pieper was born on July 29, 1897 at Meservey, Iowa. She was born the youngest of the five children of Conrad and Augusta (Ukrow) Bier. She was baptized on March 29, 1898 at the Evangelical Church in Meservey. Amanda received her education by attending school at Meservey, Iowa through the tenth grade, and also attended a teachers training course at Iowa State the summer of 1915. She then taught rural school for one year.

On January 24, 1917 Amanda was united in marriage to Fred Pieper at her parents home near Meservey by Rev. E. C. Granner. After their marriage they farmed for four years at Meservey. Fred joined the ministry and they served at Abbot and Pleasant Valley, rural Kalona, rural Washta, and Renwick before moving to Hubbard in 1945. They purchased an acreage and farmed until 1954. She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard.

Amanda passed away on October 29, 1987 at the Eldora Manor in Eldora, Iowa at the age of 90 years. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her two daughters Miriam and her husband Clyde Rosene of Princeton, Illinois and Phyllis and her husband Robert Klemme of Hubbard, Iowa; one son Melvin and his wife Marlene of Eagle Grove, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Fred in 1982, an infant son Byron in 1919, two sisters Mary Avery and Clara Guth and two brothers Charles and Irving.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 31 at Salem United Methodist Church, Hubbard, Iowa, with Reverend John R. Schlosser and Reverend Arthur F. Frankhauser officiating. Music for the service was provided by organist Georgia Miller. Casket bearers were Glenn Whitney, Mervin Reifschneider, Gene Bunte, Glenn Miller, Keith Bachman, Wm. C. Otto, Jr. Interment was at the Hubbard Cemetery, Hubbard, Iowa. Arrangements were by Boeke Funeral Home, Hubbard, Iowa.
