Santa Fe engineer William Marshall Maakestad, 67, of Needles [California] died Wednesday of congestive heart failure at St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino. Maakestad, a native of Nebraska, lived in Needles 43 years. He was an engineer for the Santa Fe Railway for 32 years. Survivors include his wife, Elsie; three sons, Gary of San Gabriel. Roger of Needles and Mike of Victorville; two daughters, Barbara Young of San Bernardino and Susan Anderson of Visalia; two brothers. Butch of Seattle, Wash., and Don of Garden Grove; two sisters, Agnes Bradley of Fresno and Lorraine Nielsen of Nelson, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church. 1605 Washington St., Needles. Mt. View Mortuary and Cemetery is directing.
