Lorraine Wildess Nielsen, the daughter of Harry and Lillian (Lorraine) Maakestad, was born on July 13, 1923 in Clarion, Iowa. She passed away on May 31, 2018 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 10 months, 18 days.

Lorraine was born in Clarion, Iowa on July 13, 1923. Early in life she moved to Omaha where she met Victor Nielsen. Vic and Lorraine were married on October 5, 1940. They were blessed with four children, Ralph, Betty, Howard and Lynn. They later moved to Nelson, NE and lived on a farm until Vic’s death in 1983. Lorraine moved into Nelson, a community she loved. Lorraine belonged to the Rebekahs and card clubs. She was a lifelong member of the American Auxiliary, and an avid Nebraska Football and Volleyball fan.

Lorraine worked at Stineman’s Café, Bargen Implement and the Legion Club. She enjoyed feeding the birds and helping other people. She was very inquisitive and enjoyed talking to other people. Lorraine’s sense of humor and smile will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Victor, son Ralph; two brothers Bill and Harry and her sister Agnes Bradley; two grandchildren Shelly and Scott Nielsen and great grandson Austin Nielsen. Survivors include her daughter Betty Elsasser and husband Jerome of Monroe, Nebraska; sons Howard of Firth, Nebraska; and Lynn and wife Sue of Hastings, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Lana Nielsen of Rock Port, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; and two brothers Don and Gilbert of California; other relatives and a host of friends.
