Lowell A. Lueck, 84, of Macomb, Illinois passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born August 3, 1933 in a farmhouse near Jewell, IA to Arthur D. and Cora Myrtie (Teig) Lueck. He married Lois J. Madsen on December 17, 1960 in Cedar Falls, IA. She survives.

Also surviving are three children: David (Cindy) Lueck of Macomb; Diane (Terry) Kestner of Cedar Falls, IA; Linda (David) Bollivar of Normal, IL; along with nine grandchildren: Erin (Jim Cutright) Lueck of Fort Wayne, IN; Tyler (Katrina) Lueck of Bloomington, IL; Matthew and Andrew Lueck of Macomb; Nathan (Kimber Wicks) Clark of Evansville, AK; Kelly and Jill Kestner of Cedar Falls, IA; Brian Bollivar of Normal, IL; and Greg Bollivar of Greenwood, IN. He is also survived by two sisters, Florence Botine and Yvonne Stevens, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marilyn Marshall and Ardeth Grove, as well as a niece and nephew.

Lowell graduated from Clarion High School, and attended Iowa State University for two years. He then entered the U. S. Army, serving on an Air Force base in England during the Korean War. He returned to Iowa State and completed his degree in Agricultural Education. He served as an Agricultural Extension Agent in Primghar, IA, before entering Iowa State Teacher's College (now UNI). There he met the love of his life, and earned a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. He served schools in Rolfe and Gowrie, IA, and Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, IA. In 1969 the family moved to Macomb where he served as the Assistant Director, then Director, of Institutional Research and Planning at Western Illinois University, until his retirement in 1993. During that time, he also completed his Doctor of Education Administration at Indiana University.

Lowell never wasted a moment. He was a life-long learner and gave selflessly to his community through service on many boards and committees including many church activities, Western Illinois Museum board, WIRC board, and the WIU Library Foundation Board. He was also a member of the Genealogical Society and Historical Society, and a longtime member of the Macomb Lions Club. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and had been a member of Cotillion for many years. Whenever he was involved in an activity, he performed many behind-the-scenes tasks that people were unaware of. He loved traveling as well as spending time with his family and friends. In order to achieve his personal goal of walking five miles per day, he was always on the move with a twinkle in his eye, and a smile or witty comment for those who crossed his path.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 2, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Macomb with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Youngshim Pitcher will officiate. Cremation rites and burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Western Illinois Museum, the Macomb Lions Club, or to the Lueck Non-Traditional Scholarship Fund at WIU.
