Carroll was born Dec. 11, 1945, in Garner, the son of John and Esther (Knoke) Kaduce. He attended rural school in Klemme, Lake Mills, and graduated from Garner High School. He graduated from Mason City Junior College (now NIACC) in 1965. There he met the love of his life, Marcele Mott, at a YMCA dance. He was drafted in May 1966 and served in Korea and was honorably discharged in May 1968. Carroll was united in marriage to Marcele on Dec. 2, 1967, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in Nashville, Tenn. They welcomed two children, Jill and Chris.

He worked for over 33 years in the railroad industry, starting as a clerk, dispatcher and eventually general manager of a short line railway. He made many friends in the railroad business. Carroll enjoyed tractor rides, going on RAGBRAI, football games, traveling and walking on the beach. His greatest joy was spending time being involved with his grandchildren and their activities. He had a gift of connecting with people. Strangers became friends very quickly. He made everyone he met feel special.

Carroll is survived by his wife, Marcele; his children, Jill (Dave) Weetman of Solon and Chris Kaduce of Grimes; four grandchildren, Taylor, Eric, Lauren and Amelia; his brothers, Rick (Nancy) Kaduce of Rockford, Verlyn (Mary) Kaduce of Garner and Al (Dawn) Kaduce of Urbandale; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his infant sister and brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the family. Carroll's family will be designating memorials toward the Iowa Donor Network, Legion Field in Solon and Special Olympics.
