16 June 1858 ---- 18 January 1943

Knute J. Engh was born June 16th, 1858, to the parents Johne and Anna Engh, at Engh in Etne, Sondhordland, Norway, and died at his home, 503 S. Cadwell Ave., Eagle Grove, January 16th, 1943, age 84 years, 7 months, and 2 days. He was baptized unto Christ, received Christian instruction and confessed his Christian faith in his youth.

He come to America in September 1881, to Morris, Ill., and on June 20th, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Larson. Mr. and Mrs. Engh lived on farms in Kendall county, Ill., until in January 1904 when they moved to the farm which they had purchased in Wright county, Iowa, and lived there until in March 1920 when they retired to Eagle Grove. Eight children were born Mr. and Mrs. Engh. One little girl, twin sister to Olin, passed away in infancy.

Mr. Engh is survived by his dear wife, and by four sons, viz John and William, both of Kanawha, Emery of Goldfield and Olin of Eagle Grove, and by three daughters, viz Mrs. Ann Gaston of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Emma Olson of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Ruth Rojohn also of Fort Dodge. Also by 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Engh was a fine Christian character, an understanding husband and father, very industrious and frugal in his habits, vitally interested in his community and his country. He followed with interest the work of his church, and loved his Saviour, Jesus Christ, dearly, a love which seemed to increase in proportion as physical illness laid hold on his body, which conditions he bore without any complaint.

Funeral services will be held today Thursday, January 21st from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, of which he was a member. Burial will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.
