Ronald E. Berg, 79, of Oglesby, Illinois died March 26, 2018, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Peru, with the Rev. Timothy Kenyon officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Wenona. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the church. Hurst Funeral Home is handling his arrangements.

Ron was born Nov. 22, 1938, in La Salle to Maurice and Ruth (Marshall) Berg. He married Joyce Ritter on July 12, 1957, in Lostant. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1956 until 1959. Ron was a past member of Wenona Masonic Lodge and Eagle Grove Bower Masonic Lodge. He is a current member of Acacia Masonic Lodge in Peru.

He resided in Wenona until 1988 and then moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa for 25 years. While in Wenona, he served as deputy sheriff of Marshall County. He owned and operated Berg Truck Shop and Tire Service. He was a volunteer fireman and emergency medical technician in Wenona. While in Eagle Grove he worked at Umthun Trucking, retiring in 2008. He served eight years as city councilman and four years as mayor of Eagle Grove.

Ron loved to play golf and was very proud of his three holes-in-one. He enjoyed wintering in Alamo, Texas with Joyce for eight years.

Ron is survived by his wife, Joyce of Oglesby; three children, Bruce (Gwen) Berg of Des Moines, Iowa, Brenda (Greg) Himelick of Peru and Brad (Amy) Berg of Mount Palatine; seven grandchildren, Ben (Shanna) Berg, Angelina Berg, Paige (Matt) Ebener, Tyler Ellerbrock, Chelsea Berg, Joe Berg and Megan Skinner; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Delores Berg of Chillicothe and Janice Wilkerson of Princeton. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Berg; and one brother-in-law, Bill Wilkerson.
