Margaret Ries, 85, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Falls, of natural causes. She was born July 12, 1916, in Klemme, daughter of Fred and Cecelia Nisbet Gates. She married Kenneth Garver on May 26, 1942. He died in 1963. She married Harold Ries on Nov. 3. 1972, in Waterloo. He died June 3, 1994. Mrs. Ries and her husband owned and operated Kenmar Drug Store for any years. Survived by: a stepdaughter, Barbara Halterman of Pasadena, Texas; and two grandchildren. Preceded in death by: four sisters, Cora Schaefer, Hattie Ridder, Mattie Riemer and Florence Martinson; and a brother, Lawrence Gates.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with inurnment in Concord Cemetery, Garner. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
