Diane Marie Jensen, 85, of Humboldt, passed away March 11, 2018 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Services will be 11 AM Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Visitation is from 10-11 AM Thursday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.

Diane is survived by her husband of 63 ½ years, Russell Jensen of Humboldt; children, Gary Jensen of Humboldt, Allen Jensen of Livermore, Dale (Susie) Jensen of Humboldt, and Carol (Rick) Hardy of Norwalk; grandchildren, Jenna, James, Joe, Kaitlyn, Spencer, Kevin, Leigh, Chris, Mike, Ricky, and Chrissy; 13 great grandchildren with two on their way; brother, Wayne (Betty) Tatge of Temple, TX; and sister, Judy Seil of Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Keith Tatge; daughter-in-law, Michelle Jensen; and grandson, Shane Jensen.

Diane, the daughter of Ed and Cenelia (Rieck) Wurch, was born December 21, 1932 at Waterloo, Iowa. She attended Woolstock Grade School, then Blairsburg Consolidated School, graduating in 1951. She attended UNI for two years and taught kindergarten for one year at Renwick. During the Korean War, Diane was asked by a friend to help write morale letters to soldiers in Korea. Her soldier was named Russell Jensen from Humboldt County. Upon his return from service, he found her and the couple was united in marriage on August 8, 1954 at Webster City, Iowa. The couple made their home on farms south of Bode where they raised their family. In addition to helping on the farm, Diane also owned and operated Countryside Ceramics for 15 years.

Diane was a member of Rutland Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She loved sewing for her church and Our Saviour’s. She was active in the Knit and Crochet Club, Quilt Club, and was a member of the Genealogical Society. For many years she found great personal reward knitting, crocheting and sewing for newborns and the children in Pediatrics at Blank and Mercy Hospitals in Des Moines. Above all, Diane truly loved children and cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
