Dorothea Staven Services Tuesday in Estherville

ESTHERVILLE - Ovedia Dorothea Staven, 93, died Feb. 23, 1974 in Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Estherville Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stan Eyberg and the Rev. Calvin D. Thoreson officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery in Renwick, Iowa. Friends may visit at Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville.

Mrs. Staven was born Oct. 18, 1880 in Flagstad, Norway, to John Keland and Ann Marie Ingebretsen. She came with her parents to the United States in 1891 and settled in Badger, Iowa, where she attending schools and later attended Humboldt College. She was married to Melvin J. Staven on Dec. 30, 1902 in Brookings, S.D. After their marriage, they lived in various cities while her husband received his education in law. They settled in Britton, S.D., in 1908 and remained until they retired in 1951, when they moved to Renwick. She has been a resident of Good Samaritan Center for the past three years and she was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church.

Survivors include on son, Alvin J. Staven of Union Grove, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Leonora) Thoreson, Estherville and Mrs. Lloyd (Marcella) Jensen of Renwick; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and five brothers.
