Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Longenecker Funeral Home of Eldora for James H. Bremmer, former operator of the Bremmer Drug Store, who died here Monday at the age of 81 years. Pallbearers were A. Edwin Anderson, Ralph Dickson, Russell C. Roupe, Louis Cochran, Wayne Blankenship and Lloyd Coonradt with flower ladies Mrs. Roy Campbell and Mrs. Howard Mairs. The Rev. Dewey Lampresht officiated with interment in the Eldora Cemetery. Music was provided by Mrs. Robert Longenecker at the organ.
James Henry Bremmer, the first child of Henry and Martha Bremmer, was born July 22, 1879, on a farm in Osceola County. While still a youth he moved with his parents to Iowa Falls where he graduated from Ellsworth Junior College in 1898. On Oct 11, 1900, he was united in marriage to Emma Hahn. The first five years of their marriage he was engaged in farming [Dows, Iowa]. He and his family then moved to Des Moines where he entered the Highland Park College of Pharmacy and received his diploma in 1906. In 1932, Mr. Bremmer moved to Eldora and opened the Bremmer Drug Store, which he operated until 1953, when it was purchased by his son D. W. Bremmer in 1958. The elder Mr. Bremmer retired.
At an young age, he became a member of the Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include five children, Mrs. Gladys Ward and Donald W. of Eldora, Mrs. Harold (Opal) Eaton of Mount Carroll, Illinois, Gerald of Traer and Mrs. Bruce (Dolores) Albright of Grundy Center; one grandson, James Eaton of Bethlehem, Penn.; a brother, Earl and a sister, Mrs. B. Emens both of Inglewood, California. Mr. Bremmer was preceded in death by Mrs. Bremmer, who died in 1951 and a brother Carl.
