Joanna Eloise Maricle, age 83, died at Brookdale Care Center, Green­wood Vill­age, Colo­rado on Mon­­day, Jan­uary 22, 2018. Memor­ial visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sun­day, Feb­ruary 18, 2018 at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Private burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery.

Joanna was born on November 22, 1934 along with her twin brother Jim in Webster City, IA to James A. Yungclas and Eloise K. Yungclas. Joanna, her two brothers James A. Yungclas Jr. and Richard P. Yungclas and parents farmed in Renwick, IA. After High School, 1952, Joanna went to Iowa State University for one year, then transferred to Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. While student teaching she met her husband William (Bill) O. Maricle. They were married June 3, 1956 after she graduated with an Art Education Major, Home Economics Minor, and an Elementary Endorsement. This combination of skills helped her to become someone who could and did substitute in most any subject.

Jo and Bill moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa. They had two children Paula (Gene) Blake and Mark (Patty) Maricle. In 1967 they returned to Cedar Falls for many years until Bill retired from UNI in 1991. They then moved to Worthington, MN being active in their grandson’s lives.

Jo was active as a substitute teacher, Brownie and Cub Scout Leader, Faculty Dames, PTA, school volunteer, and her church circle. She enjoyed working at World’s Window in Cedar Falls and in Worthington was often seen at MC Fitness, Hardee’s for coffee, and wherever she could locate a bridge group.

Jo had a number of grandchildren and step-grandchildren, as well as the students in Paula’s classes who called her Grandma Jo. Cavan (Hayley Olson) Krekelberg, Ian (Marisa) Krekelberg, Hannah Pobar, Amy Pobar, Matt (Alaina} Blake, Ryan (Cassie) Blake, and Steven Blake. Joanna was preceded in death by her husband William, parents Jim & Eloise, her brothers Jim and Richard, sisters-in-law Lourene (Paul) Rhoads, and Maggie.
