A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Wesley Community Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Wesley.

Glen Dale Smith, the son of Orville and Rose (Render) Smith, was born on December 25, 1927 at the family home southeast of Hutchins, IA. In 1940 the family moved to a farm east of Wesley. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Wesley, later Wesley Community Church. Glen attended country school and two years of high school in Wesley. He then worked on the family farm until getting married.

Glen and Darlene (Schultz) were married January 6, 1950 at Liberty Methodist Church, rural Klemme, IA. They started their life together farming in the Wesley area. In 1979 they moved into a new home in Wesley that Glen built, but he continued to farm around Wesley until 1997. Glen and Darlene enjoyed traveling, especially taking their grandchildren camping for many years. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada. He was always interested in construction and enjoyed working with wood. He worked for Bob Becker Construction for many years during the off season of farming. In later years he wove rag rugs. He was an excellent cook and storyteller.

Glen died January 26, 2018 at Kossuth Regional Health Center at the age of 90. He is survived by his daughter Judy and Craig Heyer of Titonka. He is also survived by grandchildren Jason and Amanda Heyer of Titonka, Sarah and Kevin Kakacek of Clarion, and Rachel and Brett Venteicher of Algona. "Papa Too" will be missed by great-grandchildren Lisa, Kole and Kayla Heyer; Landen, Tristan and Nathan Kakacek; and Alaina, Gabrielle, Caleb and Jenna Venteicher. He is also survived by his sister Joyce and Jim Neilsen of Aurora, IL; aunt, Eva Banko of Phoenix, AZ; daughter-in-law Lois Shuros and her husband Warren of Rochester, MN, his nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene in 2001, son Terry in 1974 and son Randy in 1973. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sisters and brothers-in-law Pearl and George Gremmer and Shirley, Shirley and Jim Kuchenruether; niece, Linda Gremmer; nephews, Rich Gremmer, Don't Kuchenruether and Doug Kuchenruether.
