Wilbur Gronewold, 82, of Ackley, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley. Burial will be at the Hazel Green Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, February 9 at the church. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Wilbur and his family.

Wilbur Gronewold was born on Nov. 29, 1935, at home in Dows, Iowa, to Tjabring and Jenny (Viet) Gronewold. He was baptized at the Morgan Methodist Church and went to school in Dows. On June 11, 1957, Wilbur was united in marriage to Joanne Carolus at the Washington Reformed Church.

Wilbur was a farmer for his entire life. He also enjoyed doing carpentry. He liked to fish and hunt as well as working the garden and canning sweet corn. He loved to watch all sports and enjoyed going bowling. Wilbur loved his large family and spending time with all of them; family first, fishing second.

Wilbur Gronewold is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Gronewold; children: Jefferey (Kayleen) Gronewold, Denise (Kevin) Duncan, Douglas (Elizabeth) Gronewold, Glenda (Charlie) Hackbart, Wanda (Daniel) Dague, Lisa (Heath) Miller and Tracey (Monte) Hartkopp; grandchildren: Joel, Joshua, Kaylie, Kyle, Travis, Jill, Janet, Nicholas, Alyson, Landon, Michelle, Joseph, James, Anna, Emily, Becky, Tim, Tina, Dani, Melissa, Christopher, Jacki, Jessica, Alexander, Abigail, Brandon, Izaak, Hannah, Jacob, Jessica, Morgan and Grace; 47 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Gronewold; sister in-law, Laura DeVries; brother and sister-in law, Harvey and Grace Carolus and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herman Gronewold; sister and brother in-law, Hennireka and Robert Kampman; mother and father in-law, John and Anna Carolus and brothers in-law, Arnold DeVries and Claire Carolus.
