Gerald Richard Jones, the son of Raymond and Vivian (Kallem) Jones, was born on September 11, 1947 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended Goldfield Community School and graduated in the class of 1965. Jerry went on to attend Iowa Central Community College and graduated in 1967.

Growing up, he spent his summers with his cousins so he built a deep bonding with all of them. Even though he was an only child he had many, many "siblings" and treasured each one.

Jerry was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church, confirmed there but later transferred membership to the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. He served 25 years on the Wright County Conservation Board. Jerry was a long term employee of Farmland/Zoetis in Eagle Grove…retiring after 47 years in 2014.

Jerry and Mary Jo were high school sweethearts marrying on June 6, 1970. Jerry's greatest accomplishments were his children Staci and Wade. All activities included them and their interests…from sports, outdoor activities, to being there for them. Losing Wade in 2016 was his biggest heartbreak.

Jerry loved the outdoors … hunting, fishing, cutting wood, riding the 4 wheeler and vegetable gardening, which he was known for. Raising the biggest pumpkins for his grandsons was a priority. His favorite times were spent with Cole and Jake doing anything they wanted to do.

Jerry truly lived his life being humble and kind…giving, helping, supporting…and had a special ability to visit with anyone…anywhere.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Mary Jo, daughter, Staci (Schnittjer), son-in-law Duane (Schnittjer) and his grandsons, Cole and Jake Schnittjer. Jerry passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Wade.

A Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22nd, 2018, at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Pastor Sara Sutter officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
