While in the service he met Catherine Dinterman and the two were married on September 13, 1945 in Frederick, MD. After his discharge from the service in 1947, the two moved back to the Humboldt area where he took up work at Jenson Lumber. Bruce followed in a long line of masons and bricklayers and used his inherited skills working at Humboldt Concrete Products until his retirement in 1983 due to illness. Following his retirement Bruce stayed active as a handyman, working on lawnmowers and things around the house, he also was able to spend quality time outdoors where he hunted and fished. However, he spent much of his retirement caring for his wife and making sure she was comfortable until her death in 1997.
