Vera Corene Paulin, 96, of Medford, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 at Aspirus Care and Rehab in Medford, under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care. Vera was born on May 20, 1921 in Dows, Iowa to John and Alta (Root) LaRue. She completed the eighth grade in Plain View. She married Edward C. Paulin, Sr., on July 2, 1941 in Pine City, Minn. and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1989. After Vera and Edward's marriage they resided in Shell Lake and Waukesha for periods of time. They moved to Medford in 1958 where they owned and operated the Ideal Café and Big Dad’s Pad Arcade for 20 years until their retirement in 1979. She enjoyed painting, sewing, crafts, gardening, playing bingo and fishing. She was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Medford.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday Dec. 29 at Hemer Funeral Home’s Medford Chapel with Rev. Brian Mundt officiating. Burial will be held at Shell Lake Cemetery in Shell Lake. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Vera is survived by her children, Charles “Chuck” (Karen) Paulin of Eau Claire, Linda (Joe) Karpinski of Freemont, Mich. and Deborah Paulin of Spencer; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald Paulin and eight brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Vera can be given to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care. Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake has been entrusted with arrangements.
