April 26, 1962 ---- December 14, 2017

Maria Ann Amonson, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Voss) Sadler, was born on April 26, 1962, in Eagle Grove. She was raised and educated in Eagle Grove where she graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1980. To accurately describe her is impossible. She joyfully welcomed guests into all of her homes and loved having family members and friends come to stay at the "Half-way house" in Waukee to enjoy her great cooking that she whipped up, lots of laughter and puzzles. She had an infectious laugh that all of her family and friends will remember for years to come. Her smile would light up a room and everyone could feel her loving and caring nature when they first met her. She loved spending time, making memories, riding the golf cart and floating with all of her family at both her lake house and that of her parent's on Lake Cornelia. Maria was known for her morning ritual of having coffee with Jesus. Her steadfast faith and surrender to God along with her honesty in the storms and darkness this life brought carried her and others to see the light and love of Jesus.

On August 10, 1985, Maria was united in marriage to Kirby Amonson at the First United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. To this marriage three beautiful daughters were born: Ashley, Emily and Katie. Maria fiercely loved (and was loved by) her girls and was extremely proud of them. She was so very precious and appreciated by them and Kirby. In 1990, Kirby joined the U.S. Air Force which started an adventure for their family being stationed in California, Guam, Nebraska, and Delaware where they met many lifetime friends, had the opportunity to travel overseas, and make an impact on many people. Maria cherished their yearly family road trips and vacations full of giggles and inside jokes.

Maria won her courageous battle with cancer and met Jesus on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family in Waukee at the age of 55 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Sadler, her grandparents, brother-in-law, Loren Thomason, great-niece, Quinn TerHorst, Aunt Doris Will and her husband Harvey, Aunt Joann Voss and Uncles Rich Ellsworth and Dick Voss. Survivors left to mourn her loss include her husband, Dr. Kirby Amonson of Waukee. Three children: Ashley (Mike) Ertz of West Des Moines, Emily Amonson of Waukee, Katie (John) Gisler of Ankeny. [Mother Mary Sadler of Eagle Grove]; Seven siblings: Mike (Sally) Sadler of Eagle Grove, Tim (Marcia) Sadler of Eagle Grove, Nancy (Denny) Vandewater of Eagle Grove, Mitch (Kathy) Sadler of Fort Dodge, Amy Kuns and Teresa Sadler of Eagle Grove, and David (Paula) Sadler of West Des Moines. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and nephews that were like grandchildren to her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
