Jan Sue Huey, 80, of Mason City, IA, died Friday, December 1, 2017. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. The family requests casual attire. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jan Huey.

Jan was born January 13, 1937, in Dows, IA, the daughter of Stanley “Slim” and Julia Fern (Miller) Denger. She graduated from Dows High School in 1959, and continued her education at Mason City Junior College where she earned her teaching degree. Jan taught school at Joice, Clear Lake and Mason City in the mid 1960’s. She later was a para professional part time at Hoover School. In 1959, she was united in marriage to Donald “Scoop” Huey at the First Christian Church in Clear Lake. To this union, they were blessed with 3 children: Douglas, Debra and Doreen. Jan worked at Pioneer Animal Hospital for 25 years before her retirement. Jan was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church where she served as youth director for many years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who shared her passion for faith, flowers and gardening with her children. She was an expert seamstress and took great joy in making clothing for her family as well as altering and patching for friends and neighbors.

Jan is survived by her husband of 58 years: Scoop Huey of Mason City; her children: Doug Huey, Debra (Wilson) Thorsen and husband Dan, and Doreen Bellitt and husband Chris; 2 grandchildren: Zach Wilson and Rachel Huey; sister: Delores Wertjes; and sisters-in-law: Donna Rae Carrell and Dodie Huey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law: Rena Huey; son-in-law: David Wilson; brother: Stan Denger; and brother-in-law: Don Wertjes.
