Richard Robert Hansen, the son of Robert and Eloise (Hawkins) Hansen, was born May 30, 1935, in rural Goldfield. He was raised and educated in the Goldfield and Eagle Grove areas and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1952.

Richard served in the US Army for two years, with duty in Korea at the end of the Korean War. Richard married Barbara Pohlman on September 1, 1956 at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. They were the parents of Kim, Jody and an infant son, Robert Scott Hansen. Richard then farmed in the evergreen neighborhood, near Goldfield for many years. He later divorced.

On September 8, 1979, Richard married Karlene Poncin who was the mother of three sons and one daughter, Ron, David, Kevin, and Natalie. The couple moved to rural Goldfield where Richard continued farming and they also owned a bar from 1980 to 1983. In 1985 they moved to Arizona where Richard did landscaping work and also worked at Albertson's Grocery. In 1999, the couple returned to Goldfield to help care for Richard's parents. Karlene suffered with Alzheimer's the last several years of her life and Richard cared for Karlene's total needs at home until her last few months, when she was moved to Careage of Clarion. The couple was married for 32 years.

Richard was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Goldfield American Legion, VFW, Bower Masonic Lodge, and Wright County Shriners, where he loved participating in local parades with the Shriner units.

Richard passed away on November 28, 2017, at the age of 82 years. He was preceded in death by her parents; His wives, Barbara and Karlene, an Infant son Robert Scott Hansen, and a step granddaughter, Madison Poncin. Survivors include his children: Kim McCollough (Alan) of Goldfield and Jody Luh (Pete) of North Tonawanda, NY; stepchildren: Ron Poncin (Marie) of Queen Creek, AZ, Natalie Thompson (Bill) of Merritt, MI, David Poncin (Kellie) of Eagle Grove and Kevin Poncin (Susan) of Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren: Mindy Craft (David), Taylor McCollough (Renee), Jessica Luh, Melissa Luh, Nicholas Luh, step grandchildren; David Stephens, Nathan Poncin, Amanda Coleman, Logan Poncin, Colton Poncin, Tawna Crandal, Nikki Thompson, great- grandchildren: Drew Craft, Dillon Craft, Evelyn McCollough, Sam McCollough, Leo McCollough, step great- grandchildren: Derek Stephens, Johnathan Pamperin, Braeden Pamperin, Adelie Pamperin, Sunday Crandal, Signe Crandal, and Brittany Schetter, sister: Diane Cumming of Ames, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Pastor Sara Sutter officiating. Visitation is Monday, December 4, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
