Carrie Apland Holm

July 7, 1862 ---- June 28, 1931

Carrie O. Apland was born to Ole and Anna Apland in Story county, Iowa, July 7, 1862, and died in her home, 502 S. Jackson avenue, Eagle Grove, Iowa, June 28, 1931, age 68 years, 11 months and 19days. She was baptized into Christ Jesus and confessed her Christian faith in the Palestine Lutheran church in Story county, Iowa.

On October 17, 1881, she was united in marriage to Rev. H. C. Holm of Cambridge, Iowa, who was then pastor of Palestine and affiliated Lutheran churches. In 1893 Rev. and Mrs. Holm moved to Eagle Grove and have since lived in Wright county. Ten children were born to this union, nine boys and one girl. Seven have passed away from this life before mother, three now survive her, namely: Harold, Aaron and Ephraim, who together with her husband, mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and by five brothers, viz Knut, Anfin, Elias, Peter and Martin, together with a large number of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Holm was of a very quiet nature, devoted to her calling in the home. The long and active public career of Dr. Holm is well known to so many, but only a few know the assistance he has received from his devoted and God-fearing wife. Next to God, no doubt, the hidden source of his success was Mrs. Holm. Whether he labored as a young pastor of many scattered churches, or as superintendent of an extensive Home Mission field, or as president of the Iowa District, she was deeply interested in the success of his work. With her cheerful disposition and childlike faith in God, she provided rest, comfort and encouragement to her husband. She lessened his burdens by dividing them with him, and increased his joys by sharing them.

She had her goodly portion of trials to go through in life, but Jesus, her Saviour, stood by her, so that her faith in God grew daily, her patience increased continually, and her cheerful smiles were seldom wanting. God grant her a peaceful rest until Jesus returns in the cloud; abundantly bless her memory and comfort her sorrowing husband and family.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 1 from the home at 1 o'clock p. m. and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Words of comfort and greetings were spoken by many visiting pastors. Burial was made in the family lot in the Rose Hill cemetery.
