Here they engaged in farming until 1868 when they moved their family by ox team to Grundy county, Iowa, coming through Chicago when it was but a village. In 1882 they moved to Osceola county where they resided until the death of Mrs. Carney at Ocheyedan in 1892. Since that time he has made his home with his children.

Besides his children he leaves thirty-two grandchildren and forty-seven great grandchildren, many of whom were present at his funeral. Mr. Carney possessed a keen sense of humor and it was this together with his ability to look upon the bright side of life that won him many friends wherever he went and which made it easier for his loved ones to care for him during his decline in health.

Short services were held at Clarion Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. H. L. Lews, pastor of the Church of Christ, after which the remains were taken to Sibley. After services the burial was made In the Goewey Cemetery Wednesday morning beside those of his loved ones who had gone before him.
