Maxine Ethel McPeak was born July 1, 1926, in Lu Verne, Iowa, the daughter of Milo and Augusta (Wagner) Patterson. She grew up in Lu Verne where she also attended school and graduated from the Lu Verne High School in 1944. After her schooling she went to Chicago to live with her sister, Marie where she worked for two years as a switchboard operator for The Bell Telephone Company.

On June 29, 1946, Maxine was united in marriage to Milford McPeak in Lu Verne, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed the family farm near Renwick until Milford's death. Maxine remained on the farm until she moved to the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond in December of 2013.

Maxine enjoyed cooking and caring for her family and working on the farm. She also enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing Bingo and baking, which she was known for her apple pie and her cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed the trips she was able to take later in life with Milford before he passed. Maxine was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Renwick.

Maxine died Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, Iowa. She was 91. She is survived by her sons, David and Louann McPeak of Lu Verne; Paul and Donna McPeak of Omak, WA; Terry and Beverly McPeak of Renwick; daughter-in-law, Pam McPeak of Ames; grandchildren, Tricia (Joel) Blanchard, Brian; Christopher (Rachel) McPeak; Kevin (Beth) McPeak; Mark, Rebecca and friend, Lucas Tille and Marilou; Misty, George; Sarah and fiancé, Calvin Hefty and Cari; great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Megan, Kinnick, Boston, Victoria, Benjamin, Nathan, Paige, Payton, Molly and Emma; siblings, Virginia (Jim) Radley and Patti (Robert) Hirsch all of Sun City West, AZ; Denny (Jane) Patterson of Lu Verne; Sandy (Eldon) Myers of Lu Verne and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milford; infant son, Mark; son, Michael McPeak; granddaughter, Michelle McPeak; sisters, Marie Shimon and Betty Hansen and brother, Jerry Patterson.
