September 3, 1934 ---- November 7, 2017

Don A. Helgevold passed away on November 7, 2017, at Centennial, Colorado after losing his battle with cancer. Don was born September 3, 1934 on a farm north of Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Harry W. and C. Lorene Helgevold. He attended Liberty 6 Country School and then Goldfield HS, graduating in 1952.

Don married Beverly Darland, Goldfield, and they had 3 children, Kathy (Kent) Curtis, Aurora, Colorado, Karen (Gordon) Svenby, Great Falls, Montana and Kurt (Mary Beth) Helgevold of Denver, Colorado. They divorced in 1984. Don was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kent W. Helgevold, Ft. Dodge. Brothers-in-law, Keith Loux, of Clarion and Fred Osborn of Stratford. He is survived by his children, 2 grandchildren, Amanda Rosselott, Billings, Mt. and Katie Matheu, Denver, Co. and one great grandson, Bo of Billings. His two sisters, Jane Loux of Belmond and Lois Osborn of Stratford, sister-in-law, Carol Helgevold of Ft. Dodge and several nieces and nephews.

Don enjoyed farming with his dad, riding his horse, Tarzan, to country school, and then attending, "town" school. He played baseball for the school and the American Legion League, and played trombone in the band. He worked for the Goldfield Co-op Elevator for over 25 years, moving up from the Feed Mill to Assistant Manager. He was a major contributor in the building of Oakridge Golf Course, a Cub Scout Leader, Coached and Umpired Little League games, Volunteer Fireman, served on the Goldfield City Council for 12 years, Park Commissioner, a 50 year member of the Bower Masonic Lodge and a Lifetime member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church. Don enjoyed life, he liked to stay busy, working on his house, playing golf and traveling/camping with his family. When there was a need for something to get done in Goldfield, he'd be one of the first volunteers to make it happen. He worked hard and played hard. His kids are happy to have the same work/play ethics.

Due to failing health, Don moved to Colorado in December of 2015, but he never forgot his life and his friends in Goldfield.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Goldfield Methodist Church with Pastor Connie Thayer officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Foust Funeral Homes of Eagle Grove and Goldfield in charge of arrangements.
