Mary L. Enockson, 90, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Family graveside services will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion, IA. Visitation will be on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Mary was born December 22, 1926 on the family farm near Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Grada (Roetman) Peterson. She attended 8 grades of country school and then 4 years of high school in Clarion. After graduating in 1944 she attended one year of business school at A.I.B. in Des Moines, Iowa and then two years at Morningside College in Sioux City. During the school years she was very active in band, orchestra, Girls and Boys 4-H Clubs, county fairs, and state fairs. Mary was the 4-H State Fair nail pounding champion.
On August 7, 1949 Mary married William “Bill” Enockson, and they became the parents of 5 boys. Mary was active in lots of Cub Scout meetings, Sunday Schools and Bible Schools. For many years, Mary and Bill moved all around the United States attending every Newcomers meeting and Welcome Wagon meeting getting to know many interesting people from all over the United States. They decided to retire back to Sioux City from where they had first started. Mary became active in P.E.O., Miercoles Book Club, First United Methodist Church, and Morningside College alumni activities. She enjoyed golf, bridge, and poker. During the summers time was spent at Lake Okoboji and winters in Arizona.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bill of Sioux City; her five sons: Bill J. Enockson of Sioux City, Donald (Dorothy) Enockson of White Bear lake, MN., James (Sandy) Enockson of St. Charles, IL., John (Debbie) Enockson of Plymouth, WI., and Barry (Julie) Enockson of Sioux City; her brother Jack (Dot) Peterson of Springdale, IA.; her sisters Eleanor (Jim) McCoy of Urbandale, IA., and Rachael McMurry of Canton, SD.; eight grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren with a 5th great grandchild due in December. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jerry and Loren, and one granddaughter, Leslie Ann.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Make A Wish Foundation.
