Donald Keith Kessel was born May 3, 1918 to Jennie [Ferguson] and Everett Kessel at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He died Oct. 11, 2001 at the age of 83 years. Don grew up on a farm near Eagle Grove with his two brothers, Wayne and Harold. He moved to Minnesota where he met and married Marion Schwartz on June 16, 1955. To this union three sons were born, Dale, David and Daniel. Don farmed at Eagle Grove and Melrose until he retired and moved to Russell.

He is survived by his wife Marion; sons, Dale and Daniel of Russell and David of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Wayne of Dows, Iowa; several cousins, brothers-in-law, Henry, Norman and Elmer Schwartz of Austin, Minn. and Ray Schwartz of St. Paul, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Freda Parrish of Albert Lea, Minn., Virginia Kessel of Surprise, Ariz. and Donna Schwartz of Dexter, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold.

Services were held at the Fielding Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 with Pastor Richard Pfiger officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Paul Force, Mike Beatty, Bud Kessel, Ed Knowles, Merle Peppers and Charlie McClain.
