July 30, 1927 --- February 5, 1972

Russell Lawrence Carpenter was born July 30, 1927, at Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Walter and Florence Miller Carpenter. He received his education in the Eagle Grove schools. Russell served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 1, 1945 until February 16, 1947, spending part of this time in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He was united in marriage to Dolly Carter of Clarion, at Eagle Grove, on August 31, 1952. The couple became the parents of three children: Sons, Nick L. Carpenter and Kim R. Carpenter and a daughter, Dawn Marie Carpenter. Russell was employed by the Franklin Mfg. Co. of Webster City for 15 years, and was employed in the paint department at the time of his illness.

He had been in failing health since June of 1969, and passed away on February 5 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 44 years, 6 months and 5 days. He is survived by his wife, and their three children. Also surviving are his brother, Marvin Carpenter, Webster City, and his sister, Mildred, Mrs. Glen Kiley, Eagle Grove. Russell was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, Webster City. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America leadership for eight years. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 9, at 2 p.m. in the 1st Baptist Church, Webster City. The Rev. David P. Ludeker officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The American Legion Post at Eagle Grove provided military rites at the graveside.
