Eldon H. Schroder, 99, of Beloit, WI, passed to his heavenly home on Friday, September 22, 2017. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be remembered for his kind heart and devotion to family.

Eldon was born in Galt, Iowa, on April 10, 1918, one of six children born to Albert and Ada (Nelson) Schroder. He married Lucille Cross on May 17, 1941, and was devoted to her for 69 years. In 1943 Eldon volunteered for the service with the Army Air Force. He was a member of the 9th Air Force-322 Bomb Group. Upon graduation from flight school, he achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and spent 9 months in France flying 47 missions over Germany defending his country. Seventy-one years later Eldon's service was celebrated with a Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C. at the age of 98, a day he never forgot.

After the war Eldon and Lucille spent their remaining years in Beloit. He was employed at Fairbanks Morse for 43 years. Upon retirement Eldon decided to give golf a try and became a daily figure at Turtle Greens until the age of 90, golfing his age at 85. He loved traveling this country and visited 48 states. An avid Packer and Brewer fan, he tried to never miss a game. Eldon was a member of River of Life United Methodist Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include his son, Curtis (Kathy) Schroder of Beloit, WI; daughters, Carol (Cal) Hansen of New Bern, NC, Marsha (Steve) Norton of Olathe, KS, and Vicki (Dave) Cornford of South Beloit, IL; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services for Eldon will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 in the River of Life United Methodist Church, 2375 Prairie Ave., Beloit, WI with Pastor David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday in the church. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials may be given in his name to River of Life United Methodist Church, Badger Honor Flight or Meals on Wheels.
