Ardi enjoyed being with, having fun with and giving service to people. She knew no strangers.

Ardith Loraine Eaton (96) died peacefully on October 2nd, 2017 in Chula Vista, California. She was known to friends and family as Ardi.

Born in Eagle Grove Iowa, Ardi was the daughter of Harold and Inda Cleveland (Gibler). She attended high school in Maywood, Illinois with time spent at art school when she met lifeguard, Eugene C. Eaton. The couple married in 1941 while Gene attended the University of Colorado. Ardi lived with her parents in Coronado, CA during WWII while Gene served in the Army Air Corps. Previous and post war, they lived in Boulder, CO, Ripon, WI, San Diego, CA, Stanford University in Menlo Park, CA, The Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO, Rawlins, WY and Craig, CO. The couple moved to Casper, WY in 1947 where they lived for 56 years.

A natural athlete, Ardi brought a positive energy into any room that she entered. She loved road trips with Gene, spending time with family and friends in activities that involved sport and play: bridge, gin rummy, cribbage, tennis, golf, fishing, dancing, picnics, ping pong and any game that she could find or make up. Ardi loved to cook for family and friends, spend time with her poodles, read books and help others.

Ardi was a member and past president of the Casper Service League. She served as the Meals on Wheels Monday volunteer coordinator for 30 years. Additional community participation includes: Casper YMCA, Congregational Church, Natrona County Library, Casper Country Club Ladies Golf Association, Fort Casper, Casper Geo Wives, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Adult Literacy and Stage III. An avid enthusiast and supporter of the arts, Ardi directed and participated in several plays and programs at the Natrona County Fair Grounds, Casper College, Natrona County High School and various public spaces.

After Gene died in 2000, Ardi retired to Chula Vista, CA. A resident of Fredericka Manor, Ardi was active in the Fredericka Manor Club, participated on the hospitality committee and volunteered at the clothing store. No matter the phase of life or where she lived, she was happiest with a group of people around the table breaking bread, sharing stories and playing games. Ardi cherished her friendships and enthusiastically relished her roles as sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.

She is survived by sister, Bonnie Whipps; son, Rick Eaton (Anka Eaton, Twila Dorn-Lowenthal); granddaughter, Inda Eaton (Annemarie McCoy); grandson, Billy Means; and great-grandchildren, Tucker and McKenzie Means. She was predeceased by husband, Gene Eaton and siblings, Harold and Richard Cleveland. Ardi is also survived by Lucky the poodle who now resides in Amagansett, NY.

The family extends gratitude to the loving and caring people of Fredericka Care Center and Fredericka Manor. Ardi donated her body to medical science and did not want a service at this time. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Ardi’s favorite charity, Smile Train or your favorite charity.
