Roger Dean Wingaard, the son of Ivan P. and Borghild Rachel Clara (Orsland) Wingaard, was born on January 4, 1948, in Webster City, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove and was a heavy weight wrestler during high school.

Roger served in the United States Marine Corps from June 21, 1967 until his honorable discharge on March 4, 1969, after he sustained a severe back injury during the Vietnam War. He returned to Eagle Grove and graduated from Iowa Central Community College and the University of Northern Iowa.

Roger enjoyed playing pool and collecting coins. Roger passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, the age of 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nadine Baker Winter. Survivors include his brother James Wingaard of Eagle Grove; sister, LaVonne Bige of Clear Lake and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, September 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove and a Graveside service on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
