July 28, 1900 ---- February 24, 1966

John William Hardcastle, 65, formerly of Eagle Grove, died Feb. 24th at Coralville, where Mr. and Mrs. Hardcastle had been residing for the past year. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Methodist church here. Rev. Bernard Olson officiated, and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hardcastle is survived by his wife, one son, Jack of Detroit, Mich., and one daughter Barbara, Mrs. James Abbott of Guttenberg, six grandchildren, one brother L. Ward Hardcastle of Dubuque and one sister Mrs. O. J. Jacobson of Cedar Falls.

Mr. Hardcastle was born July 28, in Cambridge, Neb. He attended Iowa Falls high school and Ellsworth college there, and in 1927 was married to Clara Azeltine of Rowan. He was a school principal and coach for twenty years, during which time the family, lived at Ayrshire, Cushing, Alta Vista, Hanlontown, Sergeant Bluff, Ia. In 1946, Mr. Hardcastle bought the Commercial Grocery in Eagle Grove, which he operated until 1964 when he retired. Mr. Hardcastle was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
