October 11, 1927 ---- August 26, 2017

Robert Knutson, Born Oct. 11, 1927 in Thor, Iowa, the eldest son of Olaf A. Knutson and Sadie Nervig Knutson. Robert died Aug. 26, 2017. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1945, served in the U. S. Navy from 1946-1947 and in 1952 he graduated from Luther college with a degree in Physical Education and Social Studies. His post graduate work was done at Mankato State with 60 hours in areas pertinent to his work. In 1950 he was asked by the Chicago White Sox to join a farm league in Greeley, CO. Instead he chose Luther college where he was their starting pitcher and co-captain for two years. In 1950 he married Martha McGrath. Robert taught and coached in Viola WI, Delavan MN, Canby MN and New Ulm MN. He retired to Girl Lake, Longville MN in 1985. He will be remembered by baseball fans as "the man on the mound" in Delavan and New Ulm in the 1950 and 60's when baseball was at its best in Southern MN.

Robert is survived by his son Robert Kent Knutson, wife Deb and their son Rob, daughter Kimary Knutson and her sons Nate Virnig and John Kelly and daughter Kristin McGrath and her children William and Libby. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Martha, granddaughter Katy, his parents and both his brothers.
