March 10, 1898 --- May 4, 1976

Emma Lydia Buchanan was born March 10,1898, at Janesville, Wisc., daughter of William and Dora Preston Buchanan. She received her education in the Belmond, Iowa schools. She was united in marriage to George Johnson of North Dakota, and to this union one daughter was born. She married Joe Prehm, of Eagle Grove in June of 1929 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove until Mr. Prehm's death in 1959.

In 1961, she married Fred Mayer of Eagle Grove, at Waterloo, and continued to live in Eagle Grove where she died on Tuesday, May 4th, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 24 days.

She is survived by her husband, daughter, Ruth, Mrs. Robert Parrish, Eagle Grove; one grandson; six brothers: Merlin Buchanan, Appleton, Wisc.; Ted Buchanan, Waltens, Minn.; Bernard Buchanan, Minneapolis; Russell Buchanan, Peoria, Ill.; Ray Buchanan, Cedar Falls; Don Buchanan, Janesville; two sisters: Mrs. Dora Sjoberg, Belmond and Mrs. Ruth Elwell, Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by one husband, parents, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of the Open Bible. Dr. Lloyd W. Meyer officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
