WIDELY KNOWN RESIDENT DIES

Joseph Irving, 88, Had Been Blairsburg Resident Many Years

Joseph Irving, 88, widely known resident of this county, died at the home of his son, Tom, northwest of Blairsburg, yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. He had been in poor health for several months and confined to his bed for the past eight months. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Foster funeral home, the Rev. R. N. Culbertson, of Blairsburg, officiating. Burial will be made in Graceland cemetery. It was Mr. Irving's wish that no flowers be sent.

Mr. Irving was born in Scotland in 1843 and was married [Agnes Carson] in Ayrshire, Scotland, Jan. 27, 1865. In January they celebrated their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Irving came to the United States in August, 1901. They came to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Mark Howieson, who lived south of Webster City until their own home was ready. Mr. and Mrs. Irving lived on their farm south of Webster City until eight years ago when they retired from active farming.

Mr. Irving leaves to mourn his death his wife who is 86 years of age and in fairly good health; three daughters, Mrs. M. L. Howieson, of Clarion; Mrs. James Burgess, of Beatrice, Neb., and Mrs. H. G. Barr, of Duncombe; and four sons, W. J., Joe, and Tom, all of Blairsburg and Jack, of Liverpool, England. There are also 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mr. Irving was a member of the Congregational church at Webster City.
