August 14, 1873 --- October 15, 1963

O. L. Gilmore, 90, widely known Hamilton county resident, died this morning at the Heritage home in Clarion where he had been residing the past two months. He had been in ill health the past 16 months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. Don Blanchette officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Oscar L. Gilmore, son of John and Rachel Gilmore, was born Aug. 14, 1873, at Leroy, Ill. He received his elementary schooling in that community, later attending the Illinois Normal school at Normal, Ill. When he was 17 years old, he moved to the Webster City area and taught schools in the rural schools of Hamilton county for several terms. He was united in marriage Dec. 28, 1893, to Effie Layne, and the couple farmed in the Pleasant Hill community until 1922 when they retired and moved into Webster City. In 1924, they returned to the farm where they resided until 1947, when they moved to Webster City to their home on Cedar St.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. 27, 1948, [her headstone says 1949] by one son, Reginald, his parents, two sisters and one brother. He is survived by one son and three daughters, M.L. Gilmore, Webster City, Mrs. Helen Krass of Massapequa, N.Y., Mrs. Dorothy Marvel of Winter Park, Fla., and Mrs. Dale (Geraldine) Hillyer, Webster City; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. B. E. Pierce of Webster City.

Mr. Gilmore was a member of the Congregational church and a member of the Modern Woodman lodge.
