WATERLOO, IA — Ronald Dean Munson, 73, of Independence, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017. He was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Belmond, son of Marion and Lillie Munson. He married Kay Yates on June 3, 1967. She died on March 8, 2004. He married LaVeta West on Sept. 3, 2005. Ron graduated from Waterloo’s East High School in 1961. He was a 21-year Air Force veteran, retiring in 1983. He was called into ministry in 1967 and received his master of theology in 1986. He continued to work as a pastor and district secretary treasurer for 23 years, retiring from the district office in May 2016. He continued as pastor at Gospel Lighthouse until his death.

Survived by: his wife; three children, Susan (David) Schutz, Ronda (Ted) Shepard and Dean (April) Munson; LaVeta’s children, Chuck (Candy) West, Sherene (Bill) West-Butler, and Kenneth (Beth) West; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Verginia “Ginny” Thomas and Marlas (Donnie) Harang; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Susan, and son-in-law David Schutz; a brother-in-law, Dennis Thomas; and grandchild, Jason Jinkins.

Services: were Aug. 7 at Kansas City Church, Liberty, Mo., with burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Ron loved spending time with his family, playing games, joking and laughing.
