July 22, 1934 ---- July 19, 2017

On July 19, 2017, Richard Schnittjer stepped into the arms of our Heavenly Father in Nashville, Tennessee. Richard was born in Anamosa, Iowa on July 22, 1934. He was raised in Iowa where he graduated from Eagle Grove High School and then attended Iowa State University.

He married Dolores Richmond on July 10, 1960, in Armstrong, Iowa and she was the love of his life. They raised three wonderful children together and they were his greatest joy. Dick was a grain elevator manager for Cargill, Inc., for over 37 years. He loved his work and found joy in working with farmers and their families. Throughout their years together, Richard and Dolores made homes in Swea City, Clarion, Spencer, [Iowa] Gibson City, Illinois, and Nashville, Tennessee. Richard was active in each community they lived in. He was a Volunteer Fireman in Swea City, served on the Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Church in Clarion, the Clarion Chamber of Commerce, and was a leader for the youth group in his church. He lived his life unknowingly setting an example for all who knew him and lived according to his convictions of faith and family.

In 1996, Richard and Dolores moved to Nashville, Tennessee so they could be close to their children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Richard began a handyman business and enjoyed working with his hands and his son, Wade. He never met a stranger and always had a ready smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Elizabeth Schnittjer; infant grandsons, Jarrett and Luca Faggioni. He is survived by his bride of 57 years, Dolores Schnittjer of Nashville, Tennessee; children: Kimberly Doolan (Tim), Wade Schnittjer (Linda), and Nancy Faggioni (Jan), all of Franklin, Tennessee; grandchildren: Alyssa Doolan, Joshua Doolan, Jamie Kenney (Jay), Kellie Francis (Rahkeem), Jacob Schnittjer (Holley), Kaitlin Schnittjer, and Gianna Faggioni; great-grandchildren: Hudson Francis, Caiden Francis, Jameson Francis, Grant Kenney, and Emmeline Kenney; brother Gary Schnittjer (Sandy), Maggie Wright, and Connie Jorgenson; sister-in-law Barbara Tolsdorf (Norman).

Visitation and Celebration of life services were held on July 25 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home and interment followed at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens in Nashville, Tennessee. Cards may be sent to the family at 6325 Holly Trace Way, Nashville, TN 37221
