Lois (Ploegstra) Conrad, 88, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Funeral services for Lois Conrad will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Wright Christian Reformed Church, 1730 East 130rd Street in rural Kanawha, with Pastor Jason Semans officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
She was born on a farm west of Kanawha on May 28, 1929 to parents Ben and Agnes (DeWaard) Ploegstra. She was an inspiration of strength to many during her 3-½ year fight against cancer. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1946. On February 26, 1953, she was united in marriage to Cleon (Charlie) Conrad. They made their home on a farm near Kanawha where they were blessed to raise their four daughters. After retiring from farming, they moved to their home in Kanawha. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1997 after 44 memorable years of marriage.
Lois had a deep abiding faith in her Lord Jesus Christ that she passed on to her family. She was a lifetime member of the Wright Christian Reformed Church. Her faith was lived out by her gift of service in many ways such as her family, her church, Kanawha Christian school and 46 years as a CMA at the Kanawha Community Home.
She is survived by her four daughters Deb (Mike) Stevens of Britt, Diane (Marvin L.) Johnson of Kanawha, Dawn (Scott) Jackson of Carlisle and Donna (Jeff) Watson of Brighton, IL; her eight grandchildren Jeremy, Jamison, Candice, Tasha, Zachary, Brady, Michael and Shelby; 2 step granddaughters Ginger and Tracy; her 10 great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Shirley Ploegstra and Charlotte (Wayne) White. Her husband, her parents and her brother, Adrian Ploegstra, preceded her in death.
