October 12, 1918 --- November 28, 1988

Oscar John Egesdal was born on October 12, 1918, the son of Olaf and Jennie Twedt Egesdal, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended school at Eagle Grove and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1936. Oscar was enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II for three and one-half years. He was united in marriage to Catherine June Stufflebean, of Fort Dodge, on May 13, 1945, by the Rev. T. J. Severtson, on his father's farm. He and wife farmed for 43 years, retiring on September 1, 1988. In prior years while farming, Oscar worked several years on the night shift at Farmland Industries, Inc. and for eight and one-half years he was employed at Boone Valley Cooperative Processing Association, now known as AGP. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, where he was baptized and confirmed.

On November 24, Oscar was admitted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., for a routine heart check-up when he died suddenly there on November 28, 1988 at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; three sons, Oscar John Jr., Reinbeck; Robert, Eagle Grove; Michael Lee, Slater; three daughters, Karen Egesdal, Des Moines; Mrs. Marc (Barbara) McKinney, Springfield, Mo.; and Mrs. Steve (Constance) Schiller, Charles City; one brother, Oliver Egesdal, Eagle Grove; three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Selma) Davidson, Naples, Fla.; Mrs. Pete (Margaret) Bloudoff, Oroville, Calif.; DeLores Christopher, Eagle Grove; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Oscar John Egesdal were held December 2, 1988, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Paul Schaedig officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery with full military services. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
