Norman Leonard Arne was born January 27, 1904, at Eagle Grove, the son of Nels and Olena Ekanger Arne. He attended the Eagle Grove schools, and engaged in farming for a time after his education was completed. He was united in marriage on February 17, 1926, at Webster City to Thelma Cowan of Goldfield. They became the parents of two sons, both of whom survive. They are Thomas Arne and Donald Arne, Eagle Grove. In 1939, the family moved to Massachusetts and resided there until returning to Eagle Grove in 1945. For the past 20 years he had been Sexton of Rose Hill Cemetery and a local representative for the Kallin-Johnson Monument Company of Fort Dodge. He had retired last year from the cemetery duties, and continued in the monument sales work.

He was admitted to the Bethesda General Hospital in Fort Dodge on January 17, and died unexpectedly on February 3. He was 66 years and six days old at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; sons: Thomas and Donald; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also three sisters: Anna, Mrs. Martin Norem and Mrs. Borghild Wingaard of Eagle Grove and Katherine, Mrs. Kenneth Lalor of Charles City. He was preceded in death by twin brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 6, at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Emmett Braselton officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
